The Heart of the World

Directed by Nube Sandoval and Bernardo Rey
Created in alliance with the Kogui people

GONAWINDÚA THE HEART OF THE WORLD is a visual and epic poem that presents the foundations of ‘the first children of the Mother’. It is the message of the ‘elder brothers’, paradigm of care and respect for nature.

It is a mise-en-scène born from the conversation between two cultural worlds.
On the one hand the Kogui people and their cosmogonic mission to harmonise the planet and on the other hand the theatre with its role as a bridge, integrating the contemporary languages of the performing arts to communicate the call to safeguard biodiversity.

The play is spoken entirely in the Kogui language, with english subtitles, and features a cast of 12 Kogui actors and actresses, together with two elders and spiritual leaders.

The music was specially composed by Christian Castagno (music producer, winner of three Grammy awards)

GONAWINDÚA THE HEART OF THE WORLD is a co-production of the Teatro Cenit, the Ministry of Cultures of Colombia and the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo of Bogotá. Made possible thanks to the alliance between Cenit with the Organisation Gonawindúa Tayrona and the Reserve Kogui, Malayo, Arhuaco.
